Kyle Dunham, ThD

Professor of Old Testament

Kyle C. Dunham is the Professor and Chair of Old Testament at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary in Allen Park, Michigan, where he has served since 2016.

Prior to coming to DBTS, Dr. Dunham served as the Associate Professor of Old Testament and registrar at Virginia Beach Theological Seminary. Previously he was an adjunct professor at The Master’s Seminary in Sun Valley, California. He has assisted with a church plant in Bakersfield, California, and has taught various classes and seminars in Michigan, Minnesota, Wyoming, California, Kenya, Uganda, Romania, and southeast Asia. He has also served as an interim pastor, associate pastor, and missionary.

Dr. Dunham earned the Doctor of Theology in Old Testament from The Master’s Seminary and the Master of Divinity and Master of Theology in biblical studies from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary. As a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship, Dr. Dunham received the Bachelor of Science in missions from Clarks Summit University in Pennsylvania. He has also completed additional graduate studies for the Master of Business Administration from the University of La Verne.

Dr. Dunham’s areas of expertise include the kingdom of God, ancient Near Eastern theodicy, biblical wisdom literature, and the Minor Prophets. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society, the Institute for Biblical Research, and the Society of Biblical Literature.

Dr. Dunham published a monograph on the role of leading counselor Eliphaz in the book of Job, comparing the book to ancient Near Eastern theodicy literature (The Pious Sage in Job [Wipf & Stock, 2016]). He is currently writing a commentary on Ecclesiastes with Lexham/Baker and is co-author of a forthcoming commentary on Proverbs with Kregel Academic. He is a peer reviewer for a number of journals and has published numerous academic journal articles.

Dr. Dunham and his wife, Judith, have two adult children. They enjoy a variety of activities, including serving together in overseas ministry opportunities. Dr. Dunham may be found on X or academia.edu.
