Jim Newcomer

Dr. Jim Newcomer

Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biblical Counseling

Dr. Newcomer is the senior pastor of Calvary Baptist Church (Ypsilanti, MI), where he has served since 2016.

Born in Detroit, he grew up in Warren and then Clarkston. He entered pastoral ministry in 1994 and previously served as a youth pastor in VA (6 years), a senior pastor in NC (5 years), and an executive pastor in VA (11 years). In addition to pastoral ministry, the Lord has opened the door for Dr. Newcomer to teach pastoral theology and biblical counseling on both the undergraduate and graduate levels in several institutions since 2000.

Dr. Newcomer is a certified counselor for both the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) as well as the Association of Biblical Counselors (ABC). He is in the process of becoming a fellow with ACBC. He has authored the counseling booklet Help! I Can’t Forgive (DayOne, 2012).

Dr. Newcomer earned his B.A. and M.A. from Bob Jones University, and his D.Min. from Northland International University.
