Summer Series: The Use and Misuse of Transcendental Arguments in Apologetics.

On June 20, DBTS will host the seminar: “The Use and Misuse of Transcendental Arguments in Apologetics.” This seminar will be presented by Dr. Michael Riley, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Wakefield, MI. The seminar is built off of Dr. Riley’s Ph.D. dissertation at Westminster Theological Seminary.

Many who hold to a presuppositional view of apologetics, especially at a popular level, believe that using a transcendental argument is the distinguishing feature of Van Til’s apologetic. They argue that traditional and evidential arguments fail because they are rooted in autonomy, while the transcendental argument is not. Dr. Riley will argue this is a misunderstanding of the transcendental argument and makes the incautious presuppositional apologist vulnerable to counterarguments against the transcendental argument.

The schedule for the seminar is:
