Book Giveaway: Four Views on the Apostle Paul
Hopefully, at this point in the summer you’ve made a pretty good dent in your summer reading list. We’re looking to add one more title to that list, and we’re going to give a free copy of Four Views on the Apostle Paul (Zondervan, 2012) to someone who comments on this post.
In order to enter the drawing, you need to leave a comment below telling us the author and title of the best book you’ve read this summer (outside the Bible). The book can be fiction or non-fiction, academic or popular, long or short. It doesn’t matter. To be entered, you only need to tell us the title and author, but if you really enjoyed the book and want to tell us why, that would be great too.
The deadline to be entered in the drawing is 11 pm (EST), Wednesday, August 13.
This summer I have enjoyed reading the essays in “Continuity and Discontinuity: Perspectives on the Relationship Between the Old and New Testaments” edited by John S. Feinberg.
Probably the best book I’ve read this summer is Questioning the Bible by Jonathan Morrow. Great apologetic on why we can trust and believe the Bible.
“A Reformed Approach to Science and Scripture” by Keith A. Mathison
Read “Keeping The Heart” by John Flavel.
The Life of Martyn Lloyd-Jones, 1899-1981
By: Iain H. Murray
BANNER OF TRUTH / 2013 / PAPERBACK.
I was richly encouraged and challenged by the example of MLJ. It is also encouraging how God used him. His commitment to the Word was a blessing.
Postman’s “Amusing Ourselves to Death”….I am seeing the world differently because of his insights 30 years ago.
I enjoyed Jamie Oliver by Stephanie Watson. It’s a contemporary biography.
The best thing I’ve read this Summer is a history book called Washington’s Crossing, by David H. Fischer. It is a riveting account of George Washington’s disastrous defeat on Manhattan, and his long retreat across New Jersey in the darkest days of the Revolution. In this dark hour, Washington conceived a last-ditch effort to cross the Delaware to attack the Hessian garrison at Trenton. A wonderful and scholarly book!
I don’t think I’m eligible to win, but this summer I’ve been enjoying Michael Horton’s Systematic Theology, Darryl Hart’s Recovering Mother Kirk, and Menard’s practical little tome, How to Build a Garage.
The most recent book I’ve read, but I’m not certain I can say it’s the best book, is American Sniper by Chris Kyle. I chose it after reading about the legal judgment recently obtained by Scruff-Face Jesse Ventura against the estate of the now-deceased Kyle, and wanted to get Kyle’s version of the story. For a old military vet, it’s a very interesting read. For anyone else who wants to read it, bad language ALERT.
Sojourners and Strangers: The Doctrine of the Church (Foundations of Evangelical Theology) by Gregg R. Allison.
Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey
An old classic: “How to Read a Book” by Mortimer J. Adler. A brilliant guide to reading and one that every student should read before going to college and seminary.
The two best books I have read this summer are:
The Gospel by Ray Ortlund
God in the Whirlwind by David Wells
The best book I have read this summer was, “Justification by Faith Alone” by Charles Hodge.
I just finished reading Los Pasos del Maestro (The Way of the Master) by Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort. We did this evangelism course in our church here in Lima, Peru.
I have tremendously enjoyed reading “The Knowledge of the Holy” by A. W. Tozer. Every believer should read this book…
One book I read this summer is “Our Legacy” by John Hannah.
“When The Word Leads your Pastoral Search by Chris Brauns
I’ve enjoyed Rediscovering the Church Fathers by Michael Haykin this summer.
Best book this summer: Elijah the Tishbite by F W Krummacher. Oldie but goodie. I learned of it while reading the impact it had in Andrew Bonar’s Letters and Diary
I’ve read The Misunderstanding of the Church by Emil Brunner. Oh well. 😉
“Dangerous Calling” by Paul Tripp
Joseph and the Gospel of Many Colours by Voddie Baucham jr
I have not completed a book yet summer, but I am working my way through Blomberg’s “The Historical Reliability of the Gospels”- I hope that counts. It seems to be tremendously useful book for its subject.
Thanks for doing the giveaway!
I also read “Keeping the Heart,” by John Flavel, and would probably rank it as my favorite this summer.
I also really enjoyed “Words Fail Me,” by Patricia T. O’Connor.
Oooo, great book!! Too bad I bought it earlier this year for my kindle.
