Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary exists to honor God by partnering with local churches to provide a traditional seminary education which equips men for Great Commission ministry. Since 1976, the Lord has blessed the seminary with the privilege of preparing men for gospel ministry, and we are grateful to have graduates serving Jesus Christ all across the United States and around the globe.
Like virtually every educational institution, DBTS does not operate solely on the revenue generated from tuition and fees. As a ministry of Inter-City Baptist Church, the primary support has always come from that local church, but other local churches, seeing the benefit of a solid Baptist seminary in southeastern Michigan, have helped carry the financial burden of providing an excellent seminary education for men pursuing ministry. God has also graciously placed a burden for this ministry in the hearts of many friends through the years who have given to help the seminary fulfill its mission.
Many Michigan residents may not be aware that gifts to the seminary qualify for the Michigan College and University credit on their MI-1040 tax returns. The credit allows the giver to claim up to 50% of the contribution up to a maximum of $100 for a single return or $200 for a joint return. As a credit (not simply a deduction), this amount directly reduces the filer’s tax burden.
Example 1: John Doe, filing his taxes under a single status, contributed $200 to DBTS, so he is able to claim the credit and reduce his Michigan tax obligation by $100.
Example 2: James and Jane Smith, filing their taxes in a joint return, contributed $400 to DBTS, so they are able to claim the credit and reduce their Michigan tax obligation by $200.
This unique opportunity provides a double blessing—God’s work through DBTS is helped, and the giver decreases his tax liability at the same time!
The need for faithful pastors, church planters, and missionaries is great. We’re excited about how God is using DBTS to prepare men to serve local churches and, sent out by local churches, to advance the gospel to the ends of the earth. We’d love to have your help in preparing men for Great Commission ministry. Would you consider a gift to help further the work of the ministry at DBTS?
